School board meeting preview

The Wauwatosa School Board will meet for its first meeting of the month on Monday, October 9, 2023. The meeting will be held at the Fisher Administration Building (12121 West North Ave.) in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. The meeting will start at 7:00 p.m. and will be preceded by the Annual Budget Hearing, which is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.

The Wauwatosa School District is utilizing Zoom for the October 9, 2023 livestreaming services. 

The Budget Hearing will begin with Verification of the Meeting Posting, followed by Presentation of the 2023-24 School Year Budget. Public comment will be heard on this item, even though the Board will not be asked to take action on October 9. Instead, the Board will take action to approve the budget and certify the tax levy at its next meeting on Monday, October 30, 2023. 

At the commencement of its regular meeting at 7 p.m., following review of the Consent Agenda and associated public comment, the Board will take Action to Approve the 2023-24 School Year Student Representatives to the School Board. Because this is an action item, public comment will be heard. 

Then, the Division of Pupil + Family Supports will present its Annual Report of the School Resource Officer Program in the Wauwatosa School District. Because the Board will not be asked to take action on this item, no public comment will be heard. 

Next, the Division of Academic Performance will present Curriculum Adoption and New Course Proposals for the following: 

Again, because the Board will not be asked to take action on this item, no public comment will be heard. 

Then, the Updated Staffing Report and Third Friday Enrollment Report will be presented. Because the Board will not be asked to take action on this item, no public comment will be heard. 

Following these reports, the Board will conduct a first reading of Policy 5120.01 - Assignment Within District for Non-Residents

Then, the Board will conduct a second reading with the option of taking action to approve Policy 5120 - Assignment Within District for Resident Students. If the Board takes action to approve, public comment will be heard. 

The Board will then take Action to Approve Policy 0144.5 - Board Member Behavior and Code of Conduct, as well as Policy 0167.3 - Public Comment at Board Meetings. Because the Board will be asked to vote on Policies 0144.5 and 0167.3, public comment will be heard related to these items. 

Opportunity for public comment on non-agenda items will be provided immediately following the Call to Order and immediately preceding the Board’s adjournment into Executive (Closed) Session to discuss an investigation into allegations of misconduct by a School Board member, and to consider a citizen complaint against certain Board members.

Following the Executive (Closed) Session, the Board will reconvene to open session to announce or take action, if any and appropriate, arising out of closed session. 

Finally, the Board will adjourn.
