On October 20, Wauwatosa East High School 2007 graduate Jane Paar was inducted into the United States Naval Academy Rugby Hall of Fame, presented by the Navy Rugby Alumni Association (NRAA).
The U.S. Naval Academy Rugby Hall of Fame currently honors 21 players, five exceptional teams, and three renowned coaches, including those from the women's division. Jane Paar, having become the fifth woman to earn this esteemed recognition, stands out as the youngest inductee.
“Jane Paar's induction into the U.S. Naval Academy Rugby Hall of Fame is a testament to her unwavering dedication and extraordinary achievements in the world of rugby and beyond,” said Dr. Demond Means, Superintendent of the Wauwatosa School District. “We are very proud to call Jane one of our alumni and extend our heartfelt congratulations to her for this well-deserved honor.”
Originally from Milwaukee, Paar served in the Marine Corps as a military police officer before earning a doctoral degree in psychology. Today, she serves as a clinical psychologist at Tufts University.
During her rugby career, Paar excelled as a four-year starter at fly-half. She captained the 2012 team to the National Elite Eight and earned a spot on the USA Rugby U23 squad. She also secured positions on both the USA Women's National 15s and 7s teams, participating in various World Series Sevens tournaments.
In 2015, Paar led the 15s squad to victory over Canada, earning recognition as the Women's Eagle player of the year. Additionally, in 2016, she reached the finals for the USA Women's Sevens Olympic team in Rio de Janeiro.
Established in 2015, the Navy Rugby Hall of Fame was created to recognize individuals who demonstrated exceptional play or coaching skills during their time at the Naval Academy, while also highlighting their continued commitment to support Navy Rugby beyond their active playing or coaching days.
